SIGRACET® Bipolar Plates
Bipolar plates for fuel cells
Fuel cells can be used in various mobile and stationary applications for power generation and production of heat at low emission levels.
Bipolar plates (BPP), gas diffusion layers (GDL) and the Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) are the key components for PEM-Fuel Cells, the fuel cell system most likely to be used in automotive propulsion and other applications.
Based on expanded natural graphite we manufacture ultra light and thin SIGRACET® BPP. Together with our SIGRACET® GDL materials and polymer based BPP’s, this material is sold through our Fuel Cell Components business.
Electrodes for redox-flow batteries
Redox batteries store electricity by an electrochemical process. They are particularly suitable for off-grid energy supply systems used in areas without a mains supply.
Owing to their good electrical conductivity and chemical resistance, SIGRACET® BPP made from expanded graphite are used as electrode material for the following applications:
- Temporary storage systems to compensate for peak energy demands
- Mobile radio installations and other IT facilities
- Emergency power supply units
