Thermoplastic composite materials made from carbon and glass fibers

We cover the complete value chain of thermoplastic composite materials: from precursor via carbon fibers with thermoplastic sizing to impregnated unidirectional tapes (UD-tapes), organo sheets and long fiber-reinforced thermoplast (LFT) compounds. Our customized thermoplastic materials are available with carbon fibers as well as with glass fibers.

Thermoplastic semi-finished materials are ideally used to produce composite components in processes with short cycle times. In order to fully utilize this performance potential our tapes and sheets can be further processed with automated tape laying machines or thermoforming processes combined with back injection molding.

Our thermoplastic material portfolio is based on our SIGRAFIL® continuous carbon fiber tow. Thanks to a special sizing developed by us, the carbon fiber can be optimally bonded to the thermoplastic matrix.  In this way, the high stiffness and strength of the fiber can be fully transferred to products and their components.

Thermoplastic composite toolbox

Our UD-tapes are composite materials based on unidirectional carbon fibers. The UD-tapes can be manufactured using various thermoplastics according to customer requests. Our tapes are usually delivered on spools with a core diameter in two standardized sizes.

Organo sheets are continuous fiber-reinforced laminates with a thermoplastic matrix. They are typically manufactured using our UD-tapes. Components made from organic sheets can be shaped in any final product geometry as well as repaired and recycled very effectively. Two standardized sizes are available. In addition to this, we offer individual laminate structures in terms of orientation, textile architectures and wall thickness.

Our LFT materials are long-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic granules, such as those based on polyamides (PA) and polyphthalamide (PPA). These are typically used in injection molding or pressing processes. Our thermoplastic compatible carbon fiber is also suitable for the processing in direct LFT processes.
