Polysilicon
Polysilicon is a key component in the production of photovoltaic panels for the solar industry and wafers for the semiconductor industry. Polysilicon can be produced by decomposition of trichlorosilane at high temperatures (Siemens reactor process). During this process hydrochloric acid is formed as by-product.
We offer a comprehensive range of corrosion resistant system and equipment solutions for the converter processes as well as for the processing of HCl in polysilicon production.

Silicon production
Metallic silicon is an important material for the production of aluminum and numerous chemicals. High-purity silicon is also needed for the production of microchips and solar cells. Silicon is produced in arc furnaces from quartz and carbon. The furnace normally consists of a refractory-lined vessel covered with a retractable roof through which one or several electrodes are introduced into the furnace.
Carbon electrodes from SGL Group ensure a smooth, uninterrupted production process. The robust carbon material withstands the high temperatures and stresses in the furnace. In addition, the use of high-purity carbon prevents contamination by substances such as iron, aluminum, calcium, boron and phosphorus. Thanks to the segmented construction of the electrodes with screwed joints, spent segments can be replaced without interrupting silicon production.
