Our Applications

We encompass the complete value chain of carbon fiber products – from precursor via carbon fibers, fabrics and prepregs to finished CFRP composite parts. Carbon fibers form the basis for composite fiber materials and is the key components in products for generating wind energy, in the aerospace and automotive industries, in civil and mechanical engineering as well as in sports, marine and medical technology. The precursor, a synthetic fiber made from polyacrylonitrile (PAN), is the raw material used in the production of carbon fiber.

As the only European-based carbon fiber producer we have secured our own precursor supply. We have established a full range of downstream production technologies to provide its customers with a broad range of carbon products. Our materials portfolio is completed by glass fiber-based non-crimp fabrics and special technological developments like automated braiding in our joint venture SGL Kümpers. The automotive industry is supplied through our joint ventures Benteler SGL and Brembo SGL Carbon Ceramic Brakes.

Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is a strong inorganic acid which is widely used in the chemical and other industries, e.g. for chlorination processes, production of vinyl chloride (plastics), TDI/MDI (polyurethanes), pickling of steel, pH control, neutralization, and regeneration of ion exchangers.

Our corrosion resistant systems and equipment solutions enable safe and efficient synthesis and processing of HCl gas and HCl acid. We have built more than 500 HCl synthesis units, among those the biggest synthesis units worldwide. Our innovative steam generation, two pressure distillation and extractive distillation systems are designed to maximize energy efficiency of HCl processing.

Sulfuric acid (H2SO4) is a strong inorganic acid which is widely used in the chemical and other industries. Principal uses include lead-acid batteries, ore processing, fertilizer manufacturing, oil refining, waste water processing and chemical synthesis.

We offer a comprehensive range of corrosion resistant system and equipment solutions for the processing of sulfuric acid. Examples are systems for the dilution of concentrated acid and equipment for the reconcentration of diluted acid.
