Brake technology for cars
The performance of a sports car is shown not just by its acceleration but also by its deceleration values. Carbon ceramic brake disks open up completely new dimensions here.
The carbon-fiber-reinforced silicon carbide brake disks from SGL Group weigh around 50 percent less than conventional gray cast-iron brake disks. Other advantages include much better braking response, higher fading stability, very good control, better directional stability and prevention of brake dust. High thermal stability, corrosion resistance and wear resistance ensure an exceptionally long brake disk life.

Insulation material in automotive
To Meet the ever-increasing safety standards in the automotive industry, we are offering PANOX® fibers for the production of nonwovens for thermal and acoustic insulation in cars and trucks. PANOX® fibers can be processed on standard textile machinery using needling or spun lace processes. Nonwovens of a wide range of weights can be produced and PANOX® can be used alone or in blends with other fibers, e.g. polyester.
The special finish on the fiber provides easy handling in the production process. Coatings and finish systems can be applied to the nonwoven fabric to fulfill specific requirements, e.g. oil and water repellence. PANOX® fibers are non-flammable fibers and therefore show high thermal stability in the end product.
PANOX® nonwovens can be combined with insulation materials such as glass, cotton wool, stone wool, foams, and thermally molded into insulation mats, etc. The elongation properties of PANOX® allow complex shapes to be formed.
Lightweight construction for automotive
Just as the car has been the cause of fundamental change to our everyday lives, the car itself is currently undergoing fundamental change. This is because climate change and the associated need for a reduction in energy consumption are setting completely new standards.
Lightweight materials help to reduce the fuel consumption of cars. Working in close cooperation with our partners in automotive engineering, we are producing lightweight components and structural parts from carbon fiber composites.
